NORTH COUNTRY CATHOLIC ANNUAL CAMPAIGN begins this weekend in our parish. For more than 60 years, our diocesan newspaper has provided a Catholic perspective on the news of the day, kept us informed of all the important activities in our diocese and provided spiritual enrichment through a wide variety of writers for all ages. During the coming year, the NCC will offer the most comprehensive coverage of the arrival of our next bishop, will continue its special observance of the Year for Priests and introduce readers to “Women of Faith,” young Catholic writers and Catholics who live out the Gospel of Life every day. This week there are additional copies of the North Country Catholic in the back of the church. If you don’t already subscribe, please consider picking up a copy and reading it closely. The North Country Catholic serves as a vital source of information, evangelization and unity for the 108,000 members of our Catholic family in the North Country. www.northcountrycatholic.org NEXT WEEK fuel collection. Also, it is canned food Sunday. BISHOP’S FUND: As of Feb. 17, 2010 our total collected is $15,763.50 with 96% participating. Our goal for last year is $16,420.00. Also, another family is considering getting all their members to contribute to the renovation of a window. In that case and similar cases a special parish bank account could be opened; money donated by members of a family or organization would be deposited until the total of $5,000 is reached. WE VALUE THE GIFT OF LIFE-THREE WEEKS AFTER CONCEPTION: I was conceived three weeks ago. My heart is taking shape and the Lord has so much love for me. My brain, spinal cord and bone formation are beginning to develop. My skeleton is also taking shape. Did you know the word “fetus” is Latin for “little one”? Please pray for my mom and ask Our Lady of Guadalupe to intercede for my life. “My very self you knew; my bones were not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, fashioned as in the depths of the earth. (Psalm 139: 14-15). RCIA is the acronym for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Do you know anyone who would want to learn more about becoming a Catholic? 1) Some people have never been baptized. 2) Others have been baptized in another Christian tradition. But God tells him and us, “This is my son. Listen to him.” In a culture where what we do is valued above who we are, listening to God is sadly neglected. This week, I will pray about the “clutter” of excess doing; about busy-nests, stress, and work holism. Do I trust God with my work? Do I see myself as loved and valuable for whom I am, not what I do? Learn more about our spirituality at www.misacor-usa.org THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT: Jesus told the woman at the well that God’s life is like “a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” If I am unwilling to forgive, this acts like a dam that blocks the flow of God’s grace. This week, I will consider whether there are people whom I need to forgive. God wants me to forgive them and pray for their healing. THE GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION takes us back in time to the pontificate of Pope Martin V. In the year 1421, he regulated the gathering of offerings on the Holy Land’s behalf. These days, this collection is of crucial importance and will take place on April 2, 2010. The Catholic Community in the Holy Land is almost extinct. Your support is necessary in keeping alive the Mother Church in Jerusalem. The Good Friday collection is the main source of income for the Church in the Holy Land. THE SCHEDULE OF SERVICES for Holy Week is: Palm Sunday, Saturday (anticipated), March 27, 4:00 pm in Rosiere; Sunday 9:00 am in Chaumont and 10:30 am in Cape Vincent. Holy Thursday, April 1, 7:00 pm in Chaumont. Good Friday, April 2, 7:00 pm in Cape Vincent. Communion Service. Holy Saturday, April 3, 8:00 pm in Rosiere. Easter Sunday, April 4, mass at 9:00 am in Chaumont and at 10:30 in Cape Vincent. DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME starts Sunday, March 14. Set your clock one hour ahead Saturday night.
